When I first stepped into this kitchen, it was challenging to see past the yellow. Yellow walls, yellow wallpaper and yellow oak cabinets, yellow floors. I was so hesitant to buy this house because of all the updates we would likely make, but I am so thankful my husband immediately saw so much potential in it! It would have been so convenient and easy to buy a house that was move-in ready and not in need of paint or updates, but what fun is there in that?! haha! It’s so exciting to watch our house transform into our home!
First up…kitchen! All the before pics are from the online listing, since the moment we got possession we began working! We had many friends help us that first night, and I will be forever grateful for them! We had help sanding the wood paneling in the living room, painting trim, washing walls, removing window treatments, unloading, unpacking, etc! Not to mention my parents who stayed with the kids and put them down for bed! To all who helped: thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Here is the before!!
We painted everything except the cabinets, which we hired out. Boy am I thankful I didn’t tackle that one on my own! I will list colors at the bottom of the post.
Pic below: There was a wall where this beam is now! The kitchen was closed off except a small doorway, and I’m so thankful Grant just KNEW we would love the space so much more without the wall, despite my hesitance. He was SO very right!Oh how eager we were to say goodbye to the old ceiling fan that was here, and install a light with charm! We still can’t believe the owners before us never installed hardware for the island cabinets! They were so challenging to open without hardware, not to mention they looked a bit naked. It makes SUCH a huge difference having the wall gone!!Kitchen walls and cabinet paint color: Sherwin Williams Downy
Island paint color: Sherwin Williams Escape Grey
